The Datafree MLS Search now allows direct access to cities and zip codes within the MLS. This means that it provides Google friendly access to MLS searches so that our real estate agent’s websites show more frequently in search results. Here is an exmple of a search for Palo Alto:

DataFree is announcing the beta version of our MLS real estate searching engine. Our current versions display listings in the San Francisco California Bay Area. Our source is MLSListings (formally REIL).

This MLS search was designed to be fast and easy. The idea was to make it easy for users to search without harassing them like many sites do (i.e. forcing users to login or provide email). This MLS search site utilizes the latest in Web 2.0 technologies such as AJAX and Googlemaps.

Google Maps was the first mapping service to provide the ‘new generation’ of AJAX based draggable maps. For many uses, the service is free, even for corporations. This can provide a substantial savings in subscription costs for locating services. As long as your maps are freely available to the public and you don’t charge for the service, google maps are free. Worried about future advertising? Google also has enterprise subscriptions if you find you need them later. This is really a win-win solution.

The Photo Gallery is now built into the newest version of Wordpress. This is especially handy if you have images of a home to display for an Open house or listing. There are plugins that have more features and polish which may be helpful as your galleries grow in size.

Using images in your posts increases the visual appeal to your audience. Make sure they are the right size though, too big and they will skew the page - too small they won’t look very good. Try to keep your images 320×240 or smaller. There are 2 ways to display an image in your post:
- Upload and ‘Send to Editor’
- Link to an existing image on the web
The preferred method is number 1, upload the image. When you link to an image, you are dependant on that image remaining in the same place and state. Unless you are sure about what you are linking to, you should probably upload the image yourself. When you upload the image, it won’t change and won’t move.

This allows the user to quickly scan each article to decide if it warrants further interest. The code tag is one of the most important first tools you will learn how to use.
